According to the lore, Arthas is dead and Bolvar becomes the new Lich King, but the story is not ended, i think...there is a new enemy from beneath Wyrmrest Temple (forgot the names)..at least that's according to the updates XD

Just like Kerrigan in Starcraft, apparently it's better that she controls the Zerg than the Overmind. Funnily enough, Diablo I or II (I can't remember) has the same twist in the ending.

this ending explain the scourge present in the game even though the original lich king is dead.
